Tu despedida es un regalo
2016–2026
Tu despedida es un regalo is an emotional archive built up over the course of a decade. The series explores intimate bonds as spaces of refuge and dissolution. It addresses the desire to inhabit the other, the confusion between love and healing, and the fragile balance between caring for others and losing oneself. Death does not appear as an event but as a condition. It is a latent presence in everyday life, permeating bodies, objects, and shared spaces. The images capture those moments when beauty persists in what has already begun to fall apart. The project explores the relationship between photography and memory. The image functions as a means of retention, as an attempt to preserve the sensory experience of what has been lived. But at the same time, it reveals its limitation: the possibility that the memory survives only in its record. The work takes the form of a photo album—a household object designed to preserve what must not be forgotten. Here, the album contains endings, absences, and goodbyes. This reversal shifts its original function and presents the personal archive as a space for mourning, where preserving is also a way of letting go.
This project was developed thanks to a scholarship from the Long-Term Photobook Program at the Penumbra Foundation in New York in 2026.
